Critical Illness Insurance
These days people are living longer due to medical advancements and treatments designed to prolong and improve the quality of life of survivors. Despite these improvements, the number of serious illnesses such as cancer, heart attack, stroke and many other life changing health events continue to climb. In many instances, these health events seem to be random, leaving patients with the question “why me”. It is prudent for you to consider how you would pay your regular bills and the extra bills associated with a serious illness. We often see the unfortunate effects an illness has on one’s life savings.
It is important you put a critical illness insurance policy in place while you are healthy. It provides a tax free lump sum payment after you are diagnosed.
This lump sum payment will provide you the income needed to pay for drugs and treatment not covered by OHIP, travel, lifestyle changes, mortgage payments etc. while you are not working, so that you can focus on getting better and spend time with your loved ones.
Some critical illness plans provide for a return of premium feature if you stay healthy.
